2026 Xi Niu Tang Raw Pu-erh Tea
Seven Parts Ban Zhang Character · Three Parts Bing Dao Sweetness
A hidden mountain treasure from Pasha joins Chen Sheng Hao’s Famous Mountain Tea Series.
Deep within the ancient tea forests of Pasha Mountain in Menghai, Yunnan, Xi Niu Tang (犀牛塘) is a secluded micro-terroir surrounded by dense mountain forest at an elevation of over 1,700 meters. Far from the villages and with minimal human interference, its ancient tea gardens preserve an exceptionally natural growing environment.
The name Xi Niu Tang, meaning “Rhino Pond,” comes from local Hani history. According to local tradition, rhinos once roamed these mist-covered mountains, foraging and resting among the forests and tea trees.
For the 2026 Xi Niu Tang Raw Pu-erh Tea, Chen Sheng Hao selects single-origin Gushu material from this distinctive terroir, bringing the powerful character of Menghai together with remarkable sweetness, fragrance, and refinement.
The Power of Ban Zhang, the Sweetness of Bing Dao
Xi Niu Tang is often described with a memorable phrase:
“Seven parts Ban Zhang character, three parts Bing Dao sweetness.”
This does not refer to a blend of Lao Ban Zhang and Bing Dao materials. Rather, it describes Xi Niu Tang’s unique tasting character.
It carries the strength, richness, powerful Hui Gan, and lively salivation reminiscent of Lao Ban Zhang, while revealing a contrasting delicate, rock-sugar-like sweetness reminiscent of Bing Dao.
The result is a beautifully balanced tea: powerful without being overly aggressive, sweet without losing depth, and rich while remaining refined.
劲 · 透 · 绵 · 长
Powerful · Penetrating · Smooth · Lingering
劲 | Powerful
Full-bodied and energetic, with concentrated flavor, noticeable Cha Qi, and the strength characteristic of high-quality Menghai tea.
透 | Penetrating
The aroma and flavor are clear and expressive, with rapid Hui Gan and salivation that spread through the mouth and throat.
绵 | Smooth
The liquor is soft, rounded, and silky. Bitterness and astringency transform naturally into an increasingly sweet and mellow texture.
长 | Lingering
Floral fragrance, returning sweetness, and throat resonance remain long after the tea is swallowed, creating a deep and persistent finish.
Tasting Profile
The tea opens with an elegant and expressive floral aroma, accompanied by fresh mountain character and subtle honeyed sweetness.
The liquor is rich, full-bodied, and smooth, showing an immediate sense of strength and depth. A measured bitterness and astringency quickly transform into pronounced Hui Gan (returning sweetness) and abundant salivation.
As the session develops, the sweetness becomes increasingly prominent, revealing a distinctive rock-sugar-like sweetness beneath the tea’s powerful structure.
Floral and honey-like aromas linger in the mouth and throat, while the tea maintains excellent depth and endurance across multiple infusions.
