Handmade Yixing Purple Clay (Zisha) Teapot 140ml - Ming-Style De Zhong
A purple clay teapot is a type of handmade pottery originating from Yixing, China. Made from rare and natural purple clay, these teapots are prized for enhancing the flavor and aroma of tea while offering a distinct aesthetic appeal. The unique properties of Zisha (purple clay) make it ideal for brewing fine teas.
The De Zhong (明式德钟) Design
“De Zhong” means “Bell of Virtue.” It is one of the most revered classic shapes in Yixing history, inspired by the restrained elegance of Ming-dynasty aesthetics. The profile recalls an ancient bronze bell — a form associated with uprightness, inner calm, and noble character. This 140ml piece carries the classic markers of the style: a broad, stable base, a straight spout that pours with a clean, powerful stream, and a well-proportioned ear-shaped handle.
Original Ore Zhuni (原矿朱泥) Clay
This teapot is made from original ore Zhuni, a natural vermilion clay from Yixing. After firing, it shows a striking color ranging from bright orange to deep red, and flushes to a vivid red when rinsed with hot water. Dense and fine-textured, Zhuni presents a tea’s aroma cleanly and holds heat well through the brew.
Key Features
- 140ml — an ideal size for gongfu brewing
- Fully handmade from original ore Zhuni (原矿朱泥)
- Classic Ming-style bell profile with minimalist lines
- Well suited to aromatic teas, especially light oolongs such as Tieguanyin and Dancong
A dignified, minimalist classic for traditionalists and collectors of classic Yixing shapes.
