2025 Emperor Raw Pu-erh Tea
Since its inception in 2009, Chen Sheng Hao's "Emperor" (Ba Wang Qing Bing) has become a classic choice among experienced Pu'er tea enthusiasts. Fifteen years of meticulous crafting have earned it high praise in comparative tastings of new and aged teas, gaining wide recognition from tea connoisseurs.
It is well known as a raw Pu’er tea that is as strong as its name, “Emperor”, suggests. It has a pronounced bitterness on entry, a high aroma, pronounced salivation, a sweet aftertaste, a long-lasting throat feel (hou yun) and strong cha qi. It can last for 15 infusions and still have good taste. This Pu’er tea is worth owning and revisiting after storing for years.
Honors and Recognition:
With its exceptional quality, "Emperor" has achieved numerous accolades and honors:
- Permanently collected by the Yunnan Provincial Archives in 2011;
- Awarded the "Gold Prize" at the China Pu'er Tea International Appraisal in 2011;
- Won the "Gold Award" at the Guangzhou Tea Expo in 2013;
- In 2020, it received the "Special Gold Award" at the Guangzhou Tea Expo and was named one of Yunnan's Top 10 Famous Teas. We believe the best honor comes from consumer recognition, and fifteen years of reputation building is our most precious reward.
Quality and Characteristics:
- Rich Tea Base: Its exceptional quality originates from the combination of high mountain mists, century-old arbor trees, and artisanal craftsmanship. The synergy of climate, terrain, craftsmanship, and tree variety contributes to the unique taste of "Emperor".
- Conquering Palates: With strong "cha qi" and a strong, rich taste, it wins over even the most discerning old tea drinkers. Just 7 grams can offer a profound taste experience.
Featured Puerh Tea:
- As a representative of thick-based Pu'er tea, "Emperor" has become the flagship product of Chen Sheng Hao. Its consistent production over fifteen years has not only established it as the face of the brand but also as a classic in the tea world.
Appearance and Taste:
- Plump and Tender Leaves: The leaves are plump and sturdy, yet tender, densely covered with silvery hairs, indicating superior quality.
- Clear Liquor: The liquor is clear and bright, with a rich aroma that lingers.
- Rich Flavor and Sweet Aftertaste: The taste has a pronounced bitterness on entry, a high aroma, pronounced salivation, a sweet aftertaste, a long-lasting throat feel (hou yun) and strong cha qi. It can last for 15 infusions and still have good taste. The leaves are fresh, oily, and intact, showcasing extraordinary quality and craftsmanship
Gongfu style (recommended)
About 5–7 g of leaf in a 100–120 ml gaiwan or small teapot, with water just off the boil (100 °C / 212 °F). Rinse once for 5–10 seconds and pour it away. Start with infusions of about 5–10 seconds and add a few seconds each round. Good leaf gives 8–15 infusions.
Mug or teapot
About 3–4 g per 250 ml, with water just off the boil. Rinse once, then steep 1–2 minutes for the first cup and a little longer for each cup after. The leaves give 3–4 cups.
Too bitter? Shorten the steep or use a little less leaf. Keep the water just off the boil.
Storage
Keep cakes in their paper wrappers, in a cardboard box, bamboo or unglazed clay, off the floor. Aim for 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) and 60–70% relative humidity, out of direct light, away from strong smells and with some airflow. For long-term aging, don't use the fridge, silica gel or airtight bags; a sealed tin is fine for the portion you are drinking now. Fuzzy or colored spots or a musty smell mean mold: don't drink it.
