2019 Yue Yuan Raw Pu-erh Tea
"2019月圆 Yue Yuan", a raw Pu'er tea meaning "Full Moon" in English, is the 4th product of the Spring Collection, also called "The First Cake of Spring". In Chinese beliefs, the full moon is the symbol of a family reunion.
This collection has three highlights.
1. It is made with the earliest spring tea leaves of the year picked from Gu Shu/ancient tea trees.
2. "汗青 Han Qing – 青云 Qing Yun – 云月 Yun Yue – 月圆 Yue Yuan – 圆梦 Yuan Meng". The naming method is similar to that of the Hani minority’s "father and son concatenation system", which is the last word of father’s name is the same as the first word of son’s name.
3. Each tea has a cultural meaning.
In winter, the tea tree recuperates and regenerates, and reserves a wealth of nutrients. Therefore, the spring tea leaves are rich in quality, high in aromatic substances and vitamins, and have a fresh taste and strong aroma. The appearance is tight and strong.
In order to bring the most "fresh" taste of the earliest spring to tea lovers, we finished picking fresh leaves to the completion of production in less than one month. Tasting “Yue Yuan” is to embrace the spring of Xishuangbanna.
Gongfu style (recommended)
About 5–7 g of leaf in a 100–120 ml gaiwan or small teapot, with water just off the boil (100 °C / 212 °F). Rinse once for 5–10 seconds and pour it away. Start with infusions of about 5–10 seconds and add a few seconds each round. Good leaf gives 8–15 infusions.
Mug or teapot
About 3–4 g per 250 ml, with water just off the boil. Rinse once, then steep 1–2 minutes for the first cup and a little longer for each cup after. The leaves give 3–4 cups.
Too bitter? Shorten the steep or use a little less leaf. Keep the water just off the boil.
Storage
Keep cakes in their paper wrappers, in a cardboard box, bamboo or unglazed clay, off the floor. Aim for 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) and 60–70% relative humidity, out of direct light, away from strong smells and with some airflow. For long-term aging, don't use the fridge, silica gel or airtight bags; a sealed tin is fine for the portion you are drinking now. Fuzzy or colored spots or a musty smell mean mold: don't drink it.
