-
Raw Puerh:
With a high aroma, sweet and refreshing taste, and soft texture, dominated by a floral-honey aroma. -
Ripe Puerh:
Mellow and smooth taste. Rich aged aroma, with a red, bright and rich liquor. The flavor is smooth and rich, featuring woody, aged, floral, fruity and sweet aromas.
Dragon Boat Festival Background:
The Dragon Boat Festival has a long history and rich connotations. It is a major folk festival that integrates worshiping gods and ancestors, praying for blessings and warding off evil spirits, entertainment, and food, and is known as one of China's four major traditional festivals alongside the Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. Nowadays, people express their blessings through mutual gift-giving.
Gongfu style (recommended)
About 5–7 g of leaf in a 100–120 ml gaiwan or small teapot, with water just off the boil (100 °C / 212 °F). Rinse once for 5–10 seconds and pour it away. Start with infusions of about 5–10 seconds and add a few seconds each round. Good leaf gives 8–15 infusions.
Mug or teapot
About 3–4 g per 250 ml, with water just off the boil. Rinse once, then steep 1–2 minutes for the first cup and a little longer for each cup after. The leaves give 3–4 cups.
Too bitter? Shorten the steep or use a little less leaf. Keep the water just off the boil.
Storage
Keep cakes in their paper wrappers, in a cardboard box, bamboo or unglazed clay, off the floor. Aim for 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) and 60–70% relative humidity, out of direct light, away from strong smells and with some airflow. For long-term aging, don't use the fridge, silica gel or airtight bags; a sealed tin is fine for the portion you are drinking now. Fuzzy or colored spots or a musty smell mean mold: don't drink it.
