Handmade Yixing Purple Clay (Zisha) Teapot 200ml / 220ml - Duo Zhi
A purple clay teapot is a type of handmade pottery originating from Yixing, China. Made from rare and natural purple clay, these teapots are prized for enhancing the flavor and aroma of tea while offering a distinct aesthetic appeal. The unique properties of Zisha (purple clay) make it ideal for brewing fine teas.
The Duo Zhi (掇只壶) Design
The character "Duo" (掇) in its name implies connecting and stacking, as its design resembles multiple spherical and hemispherical components stacked together. Another theory suggests it was named after the "Duozi," a local Yixing container used for holding items, which its shape imitates.
Evolved from the Lianzi (Lotus Seed) teapot, this style is a classic design among round Zisha wares.
This elegant 200ml teapot serves as a masterful example of classic, minimalist beauty. Crafted entirely by hand from highly sought-after Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni (a premium vermilion clay), it boasts a stunning, warm reddish hue that will develop a deep, glossy patina with regular use. The full-bellied body transitions gracefully into a domed lid, topped with a delicate spherical knob. The curved spout and perfectly proportioned ear-shaped handle ensure excellent balance and a smooth, precise pour. Because of its generous, rounded interior, the tea leaves have ample space to expand, making it highly recommended for brewing Oolong, black, or Pu'er teas.
Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni (小煤窑朱泥) Clay
Crafted from Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni, a prized vermilion clay from Yixing. This clay is known for its high shrinkage during firing, which demands great skill to shape fully by hand without warping. It fires to a smooth, lustrous, warm reddish-orange surface that develops a rich patina with regular use.
Key Features
- Available in 200ml / 220ml — classic gongfu sizes
- Fully handmade from Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni (Premium Vermilion Clay)
- Recommended for aromatic teas: young raw pu-erh, light oolongs such as Tieguanyin and Dancong, and black tea
