2016 People (人韵, Ren Yun) is the thick-base cake of Chen Sheng Hao's Heaven, Earth, People, Harmony series.
About the Series
The series is Chen Sheng Hao's top tier of raw pu-erh. Chen Sheng Hao sorts its raw teas into four taste profiles, and each cake stands for one: Heaven for high aroma, Earth for strong cha qi, People for a thick base and Harmony for deep yun. All four use old-arbor leaf from trees over 300 years old in Xishuangbanna. Earth, People and Harmony were made only in 2016 and 2017; after that, there was not enough top-grade leaf for them, and only Heaven continued.
Taste
Chen Sheng Hao sums People up in a Chinese saying: the bitterness does not cling to the mouth, and the astringency does not stay on the tongue. There is a clear bitterness on entry, but it turns quickly into salivation and a strong, long huigan. The taste is thick and well defined, yet it moves smoothly from one sensation to the next. It holds up through many infusions.
Chen Sheng Hao links People to an old Chinese idea, "sweetness after bitterness" (ku jin gan lai): hardship first, reward after. It is a tea that lets you taste that idea in the cup.

Gongfu style (recommended)
5–7 g of leaf per 100 ml, water at 95–100 °C. Rinse once for about 5 seconds and pour it away. Start with 10–15 second infusions and add a few seconds each round. Good pu-erh gives 10 or more infusions.
Western style
3 g per 250 ml cup, water at 95–100 °C, steep 3–5 minutes.
Storage
Keep the cake in a clean, dry place away from sunlight and strong smells.
