How to Brew Lao Ban Zhang Ripe Pu-erh Tea: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Measure the Tea:

    • Use a tea-to-water ratio of about 1:20.
    • Start with 8 grams of tea leaves. For a richer flavor, use 10 grams.
  2. Choose Your Brewing Vessel:

    • For experienced tea drinkers, use a Yixing teapot.
    • For beginners, a gaiwan is recommended as it’s easier to control infusion timing.

  3. Warm Your Utensils:

    • Pour boiling water into your teapot or gaiwan to warm it up, then discard the water.

  4. Rinse the Tea:

    • Add the tea leaves to the vessel.
    • Cover and gently shake the vessel up and down 15-20 times to awaken the leaves.
    • Pour boiling water over the leaves at a fixed point, from a low height, without stirring them.
